NORDIC COMPETITION
THE NORDIC FILM AWARD
Eight new feature films battle it out in the festival's Nordic Competition.
The Nordic Film Award consists of SEK 100 000 from Region Västra Götaland and Filmdraken (the Film Dragon), a statuette covered in mosaic and created by Swedish artist Ernst Billgren.
The jury 2008 consisted of film critic
Monica Tunbäck-Hansson, directors
Aku Louhimies, Finland, and
Ragnar Bragason, Island, the producers
Anna Anthony, Sweden, and
Jørgen Storm Rosenberg, Norway, and the actress
Sonja Richter, Denmark.
The Nordic Film Award went to the director
Tomas Alfredson for his film
Let the Right One in.
There is also the
Kodak Nordic Vision Award consisting of at a value of SEK 50.000, awarded for best cinematography in one of the feature films.
Winner 2008 was cinematographer
Hoyte van Hoytema for his camera work in
Let the Right One in.
THE CHURCH OF SWEDEN FILM PRIZE
This prize is awarded to one of the competing Nordic films. It consists of SEK 50.000. The jury members this year was
Andja Arnebäck, Ann-Louise Eriksson, Jes Nysten and
Mikael Ringlander.
Winner was the Danish film
Go With Peace Jamil by
Omar Shargawi.
THE FIPRESCI AWARD
The FIPRESCI award is given by the International federation of film critics to one the competing Nordic feature films. This year's jury consisted of the film critics
Henrik Uth Jensen, Kristeligt Dagblad, Denmark,
Bregtje Schudel, Vrij Nederland, NL20, Amsterdam Weekly and Televizier, Netherlands, and
Neil Young, Tribune Magazine and the web site Jigsaw Lounge, United Kingdom.
The FIPRESCI award went to
Go With Peace Jamil by
Omar Shargawi.
STARTSLADDEN
The eight short films that are shown as intro films before competing Nordic films are in competition for the best short film award Startsladden. The prize consists of technical film support at a value of SEK 900.000, and SEK 100.000 in cash added by the Swedish Film Institute's short film commissioner Anne-Marie Söhrman Fermelin. Startsladden is a collaborative award from technical companies in the trade association Bratek and SFI. A special jury selected the winner of Startsladden: the directors
Nanna Huolman and
Robert Lillhonga, Mimmi Forss, Stockholm Film Commission and
Henrik A Persson, Dagsljus.
This year's winner was
I stället för Abrakadabra by
Patrik Eklund.
VIEWER'S CHOICE AWARD
The short films also compete for the honorary Viewer's Choice award - where you choose the winner among the eight competing Swedish short films.

OTHER AWARDS AND ACCOLADES
THE INGMAR BERGMAN INTERNATIONAL DEBUT AWARD
Awarded for the first time during the 30th anniversary of the festival, 2007. Ingmar Bergman and an international jury seleced the winner from five nominated films. TIBIDA is awarded to "a debutant who in his film treats an existential theme with a dynamic or experimental approach to the cinematic means of expression".
The prize consists of a one week stay during the Bergman Week in the summer of 2007, a DVD box with 30 Bergman films from the Ingmar Bergman Foundation and a beautiful stone from Bergman's own Fårö beach, with the director's name engraved.
This year's TIBIDA jury consisted of
Anu Koivunen, film professor, Sweden,
Margarethe von Trotta, director, Germany/France,
Pen-ek Ratanaruang, director, Thailand,
István Szabó, director, Hungary.
This year's Ingmar Bergman Award went to
Solitary Fragments by
Jaime Rosales from Spain.
SHORT STORY AWARD
The prize is awarded for the eight year. It consists of SEK 200.000 from the Swedish Public Television and the Swedish Film Institute and it goes to the best of the nine competing short story films.
Awarded 2008 was
Borta bra by
Ulf Friberg.
VIEWER'S CHOICE - SHORT STORY
The audience pick the winner from eight half-hour long short story films!
This year's choice was
Majken directed by
Andrea Östlund.
GÖTEBORGS STORA FILMPRIS
The "Göteborgs Stora Filmpris" - SEK 50.000 - is awarded by the city of Göteborg to the Guldbagge nominee film that best pleased the audience jury. The prize ceremony will take place at Draken before the screening of the opening film
The King of Ping Pong at 17.30 pm.

IN MEMORY OF VIVECA SELDAHL
The SEK 25.000 award goes to someone working within film or theatre in the spirit of Viveka Seldahl.
2008 winner was the Swedish actress
Ann Petrén.
STOCKHOLM POSTPRODUCTION'S PRODUCER AWARD, LORENS
The award consists of free development of the producer's upcoming film and is estimated to a value of SEK 500 000 kronor. The winner was chosen from the producers of the Swedish films of 2007 and went to a producer with both high economic and artistic visions.
The first winner of the producer award was
Fredrik Heining for
Darling.
VIEWER'S FEATURE FILM CHOICE
The festival audience gets the chance to choose their favourite from the program.
Their choice of 2008 was
Three Miles North of Molkom by
Robert Cannan and
Corinna Villari-McFarlane, United Kingdom.
